Spring a Day Away?

Spring a Day Away?

snowI am writing this on March the 5th. The snow is falling outside my window here in Tennessee. Not what I expected when I moved down south! Is Spring really only one day away from this posting? In New Jersey the weather report for today the 5th is that it will snow till 5pm tonight. In Pennsylvania they are predicting 6 to 10 inches. Those are states where I have friends I chat with daily. What has been happening weather-wise for you in your region? What is going on weather-wise in your country? Write to us at melodyhopetikvah@gmail.com. Maybe by the time you read this you can send us pictures of spring to our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MelodyHopeAtTikvah.

I went online to find poems of spring. You know what? They were mostly pretty sad. Here is an example of what I found. It’s called a Song of Spring by Katharine Tynan. It seems really somber to me

The Spring comes slowly up this way,
Slowly, slowly,
Under a snood of hodden grey.

The black and white for her array,
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

Where is her green that was so gay?
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

Unto a world too sick for May,
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

Where are the lads that used to play?
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

She has no heart for holiday,
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

The trees are out in Heaven they say.
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up our way.

I was thinking of a song. I thought it was “Spring is Busting Out All Over”. But it turns out the title is “June is Busting Out All Over” and comes from the Carousel sound track by Roger and Hammerstein. In fact I am listening to it even as I write. I think I will watch the movie this afternoon. I could use a little entertainment. I have been house bound for weeks in this winter weather.

Spring is an interesting word. I was looking for scriptures about the word “spring” in the Word. I think I will write about it in my next blog. However as for today I think I will hunt around for some fun crafts and ideas for you and your child to enjoy in the warmer weather we all hope will be here by the time you read this. I will be posting them on face book.

You know I was just remembering a story my grandfather told me about the blizzard of 1888. It was in March and as he told the story the drifts were so high they reached the second story windows of homes on the street where he lived. No one could get out so they put planks from window to window to get to the grocery store at the corner. I can see that because I remember seeing pictures that the houses were so close together only a driveway separated them. I am sure they were grateful for the neighborhood grocery store. We wouldn’t find that today but when I was growing up we had one on the corner also. It was owned by a sweet older couple the papa was the butcher and momma took care of the rest. The store always has lots of yummy good baked goods as well as canned goods, produce and penny candy. I have many happy memories walking there after school.

Blessings,

Melody
